Halloween is a holiday celebrated each year on October 31st. It's a festival of candies, costumes, ghostly decorations and spooky tales, enjoyed across many parts of the world. Here is a collection of Halloween vocabulary words for children to teach them what Halloween is all about.

1. All Hallows Eve - All Hallows' Eve is the traditional name for Halloween, which is celebrated on October 31st each year.
2. Apparition - the spirit of a dead person appearing in a form that can be seen
3. Autumn - the season of the year between summer and winter
4. Banshee - a female spirit in traditional Irish stories whose crying sound tells you that someone in your family is going to die
5. Black cat - According to folklore, black cats are said to have supernatural powers, and witches often keep them as pets.
6. Bloodcurdling - causing a feeling of extreme fear
7. Bogeyman - A bogeyman is an imaginary evil spirit. Some parents tell their children that the bogeyman will catch them if they behave badly.
8. Boo - a sound you make to frighten or surprise somebody
9. Broomstick - a broom with a long handle and small thin sticks at the end, or the handle of a broom. In stories, witches ride through the air on broomsticks.
10. Casket - a box in which a dead body is buried or cremated

27. Jack-o'-lantern - a light made from a hollow pumpkin with holes cut into the sides like the eyes and mouth of a person's face, inside which there is a candle

34. Trick or treat - Trick or treat is an activity in which children knock on the doors of houses at Halloween and shout 'trick or treat'. If the person who answers the door does not give the children a treat, such as sweets or candy, they play a trick on him or her.
35. Wand - a straight, thin stick that is held by somebody when performing magic or magic tricks
36. Warlock - a man who is believed to have magic powers, especially evil ones
37. Werewolf - someone who, in stories, changes into a wolf at the time of the full moon
